There is SOOO much you can do with a birth ball to increase comfort and aid relaxation throughout pregnancy and labour. Simple and easy to use, the birth ball may just become your new best friend!
It is easier to get full mobility on a ball, but if you position yourself right at the front edge of a chair then it is possible to move freely. The ball we use in the videos is a 65cm ball. The feet should be flat to the floor and the knees level with the pelvis or lower than the hips.
Here is a guide to picking the right size ball.
Mum’s Height
142cm and under = 45cm ball
1.43cm – 161cm = 55cm ball
162cm – 179cm = 65cm ball
180cm – 193cm = 75cm ball
over 193cm = 85cm ball
Be aware that balls can deflate even if they look fine, you may need to re inflate your ball to make sure it is at the correct height for you.
As with everything you need to remember that if it doesn’t feel right don’t do it and if you (or baby) have any medical conditions, complications or concerns you need to consult your care team.
