Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers – strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength. – Barbara Katz Rothman
Empowered Bumps is about more than just teaching hypnobirthing; it’s about supporting mothers from those first two lines, right up to childhood. It’s about empowering mothers to find their inner strength and the confidence to have the birth they deserve, with me cheering you on from the sidelines every step of the way.
They say it takes a village to raise a baby, and at Empowered Bumps, we foster this community spirit because together we are stronger and can handle anything that life throws at us – from sleepless nights to teething tears and beyond. You’re never alone – you have an entire network around you that have got your back, led by me – your head cheerleader, through birth and beyond.
This is more than just a job for me; it’s my calling. I left my “normal” job after ten years because I feel so passionately about helping women be heard and understood, and dispelling the myths that society and the media teach us about how birth should be. I am going to help you enter motherhood, feeling supported values, and like the all-powerful goddess you are.
I’m a mother of two, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a friend, and I am your guide on this journey into the best and biggest adventure of your life. Bring it on!

When I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter Eira, I was absolutely delighted about becoming a Mum but petrified of giving birth. I expected to be in a hospital, lay on a bed and for it to be completely out of my control.
I began searching the internet in hope that I would find something to help make this ‘awful experience’ more bearable and that’s when I discovered hypnobirthing. Likely to find birth less painful and lessen the need for medical intervention? Worth a shot!
I found Empowered Bumps on Facebook and began attending weekly relaxation classes and completed a group hypnobirthing course with my partner. The weekly classes quickly became an enjoyable part of my routine, meeting other mums and mums to be, relaxing and connecting with our babies and busting myths surrounding birth.
Jenie discussed so many things that I hadn’t even thought about or thought to be an option. My mindset began to change, and I began to look forward to the birth of my baby. I opted for a home birth, which if someone would have told me at the start of my pregnancy, I would have never believed them.
In fact, I remember my midwife asking me at my first appointment where I wanted to give birth and I didn’t even realise that home was an option, or a safe one! Hypnobirthing helped me to make informed decisions including my place of birth.
Together me and my partner created a birth environment that felt warm and safe including my birth pool, ball and plan(s) and my diffuser and my affirmations, fairy lights and candles which we spread around the room. There was no space for negativity. I had the most amazing, empowering and positive birth surrounded by loved ones and fantastic midwifes – I feel so blessed.
The knowledge and breathing, visualisation and relaxation techniques that I had learnt during my hypnobirthing course, proved to be invaluable both at home and in hospital – I had a tear during birth that needed to be repaired in theatre. I remained calm, positive and felt in control throughout. It was an amazing, life-changing experience that made realise just how strong and brave I can be and the true power of hypnobirthing.
I felt so strongly about banishing the negativity surrounding birth and helping other women to have an incredible birth experience, that I decided to become a hypnobirthing instructor with Empowered Bumps. I look forward to supporting you in your pregnancy and helping you to prepare for this life-changing experience that you will remember forever.
There’s something about a pregnant lady that seems to make everyone, strangers, friends, family members, want to
Thankfully, I came across hypnobirthing, and suddenly a light switched on. tell you a horror story about the pain of birth. This is what started me on this journey. I was so sure that bringing a tiny life into the world, the most natural thing in the universe, didn’t have to be quite as horrific as everyone wanted to tell me, right?
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not going to tell you I was a convert right away. After all, given the sheer number of horror stories that were being fed to me daily, it was no wonder there was a little part of me that felt a bit skeptical!
But, in for a penny, in for a pound, I decided to really embrace the idea of hypnobirthing – after all, it couldn’t make anything worse!
So I went to antenatal classes, read heaps of books on hypnobirthing, and practiced at home, and it gradually began to work. My mindset changed, and throughout the later stages of pregnancy, I started to feel confident that I could do this and that it really could be an enjoyable and empowering experience!
Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and when I went into labour, it was time to put all my practice to the test.
I’m thrilled to say I birthed my first darling girl in a calm and relaxed environment in a birthing pool – a truly magical experience. I felt as though I really had proved that birth didn’t have to be a horrible experience.
So naturally, when it was time for my second beautiful baby girl to be born into the world, there was no doubt in my mind that hypnobirthing was the answer.
This time I opted for a home birth, and it was just an incredible experience, with hypnobirthing allowing me to make informed choices and my own powerful body performing what feels like a miracle.
I feel so lucky to have had such positive birth experiences, and I believe it’s my duty to help others to have the same. I want other parents to look back on the birth of their baby, feeling positive and empowered, basking in the love of such a special day.
Based in Southport, I cover the South Lancashire and Merseyside areas. I can offer private hypnobirthing courses in the comfort of your own home, or group hypnobirthing at various venues in the area, including my own studio, The Hart Space. I also specialise in Pregnancy Yoga and Relaxation for holistic care during your pregnancy and can also offer bump, birth, and beyond support as a birth and postnatal doula.
My support goes far beyond pregnancy and birth, and it’s really special to see all of your precious babies at one of my nurturing baby massage classes in those important early weeks and watch them grow and develop (as well as seeing you blossom into your new role as a mummy!).
